About the Opportunity

Welch LLP is rapidly expanding our growth in the government space, and we are currently seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Government Group to work on assurance and advisory engagements. This individual would have the ability to work remotely or have the option to work out of our Ottawa or Toronto office.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Staff in client assurance engagements (mostly compliance audits) while providing exceptional client service under varying reporting frameworks.
  • Execute fieldwork assignments .
  • Analyze and review client prepared financial statements, reports, and filings.
  • Assist Senior Staff with risk advisory engagements through technical accounting work and financial analysis

Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum completion of a University degree with a specialization in Accounting.
  • Attained or working towards fulfilling the experience requirements required for the CPA designation.

Experience

  • 1+ years of previous experience in a similar role in public accounting is required. Preference to those with experience in audit or internal audit
  • Please highlight your experience with any of the following types of activities:
    • compliance audit work);
    • internal audit work such as, corporate risk profiling, internal controls review, and designing risk-based audit plans;
    • value-for-money audit engagements or other types of non-financial assurance work;
    • data and financial analytics;
  • Experience with compliance audits is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Caseware / IDEA is considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong understanding of a client-focused environment including related deadlines and the ability to work to meet those deadlines.
  • Demonstrated initiative, and willingness and ability to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to work under pressure, decisiveness, good judgment and common sense.
  • Ability to develop good relationships with clients.
