Accounting for Bravery

Chartered Professional Accountants from across Ontario are coming together to support frontline healthcare workers by offering to prepare their 2019 taxes free of charge. Welch LLP is pleased to participate in Accounting for Bravery – a profession-wide initiative organized by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario with support from firms and members across the province.

By volunteering our services, we hope to give healthcare workers some relief during this crisis and offer the best professional advice to complete their taxes as a token of our gratitude for their bravery and dedication.

Eligibility and Process

This program is open to any frontline healthcare worker in Ontario supporting the COVID-19 efforts in hospitals and long-term care facilities (nursing homes), whether you are a nurse, a paramedic, a lab technician or a cleaner.

After completing a simple online form, eligible frontline healthcare workers will be connected to a CPA who can receive their documentation electronically. In keeping with social distancing guidelines, there will be no face-to-face meetings. Since we want to help as many frontline workers as we can, at this time, the program covers only individual, spousal and dependent children’s tax returns.

Our priority is ensuring all frontline healthcare workers receive the best possible advice and support in filing their taxes. While many people stand to benefit from this professional service, if you have an existing relationship with an accountant, you will be best served by maintaining continuity.

Please note the program does not include more complex tax returns, such as those involving self-employment income or employment expenses, business or rental income and expenses or foreign property (T1135).

Deadline to Apply

To ensure all returns will be ready in time to the meet the June 1 filing deadline, the program will be accepting applications until May 15, 2020.
