Micheal Burch

“The best thing about working at Welch is the ability to interact with a varied selection of people each day. This includes a wonderful group of employees and partners and fantastic clients and contacts. Not a day goes by that I do not learn something from one or more of these individuals.”
Micheal joined the Welch LLP team in 1978 after graduating from the University of Ottawa, where he received his Bachelor of Administration degree. He went on to receive his Chartered Account (CA) designation in 1981 and his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation thereafter.
As a specialist Micheal initially concentrated in all areas of taxation – corporate and personal. This expertise was subsequently augmented with his extensive exposure to financial and estate planning, as well as cross-border consulting.
For a brief time Micheal worked as a controller in the real estate industry. In this role he gained valuable insight into the complications faced by the SME owner.
Micheal was made a partner at Welch LLP in 1993. In 2008, he took over the role of Ottawa office Managing Partner, a role he fulfilled until his retirement in 2020. Micheal is now a senior advisor to Welch LLP.
In 2016, Micheal Burch was awarded his fellowship by the Council of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario), earning him an FCPA designation.
“The change from, predominately, providing Tax consulting advice to our clients to managing an office – which has now grown to 200 people – has been very challenging. I look forward to seeing our strategic plans realized, our goals achieved and Welch continuing to be a prominent player in the markets we are in.”

Favorite quote/ Words of Wisdom
“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
