About the Opportunity

Welch LLP Cornwall is currently looking for a Bookkeeping Supervisor to join our growing bookkeeping business, Welch Business Management. As a Bookkeeping Supervisor you will lead our team of bookkeepers responsible for delivering high-quality bookkeeping services to a diverse portfolio of clients. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a client-focused mindset. You will ensure accurate financial record-keeping, compliance with accounting standards, and timely reporting, while fostering a collaborative and efficient team environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor a team of bookkeepers, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to firm standards.
  • Oversee the preparation of client financial records, including general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, payroll entries, and financial statements.
  • Review and approve bookkeeping work before submission to government, clients or senior accountants.
  • Serve as a point of contact for client inquiries related to bookkeeping, providing professional and timely responses.
  • Coordinate with tax and assurance teams to ensure seamless integration of bookkeeping data into broader client services.
  • Monitor deadlines and workflow to ensure timely delivery of client work.
  • Assist in onboarding new clients, including setting up accounting systems and processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve internal processes and client service delivery.
  • Stay current with changes in accounting software, tax regulations, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a public accounting firm.
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting software – including Cloud based systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, CaseWare)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite an asset
  • Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and tax compliance.
  • Ability to stay organized and work in a fast-paced environment on multiple assignments, multiple deadlines/priorities.
  • Initiative, willingness and ability to accept responsibility
  • Learning mindset; willingness and ability to ramp up quickly on new clients, new industries.
  • Ability to work under pressure, decisiveness, creativeness, good judgment, and common sense
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships
  • Experience in different industries would be an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French would be an asset
