A day in the life of a Partner at our Belleville Office
Busy season
Everyone always talks about how stressful busy season is but don’t let the hype fool you – it’s not as bad as it sounds! I thought I would give you a glimpse into a day in my life at the Belleville office during March, just as busy season starts to hit.
08:00 Arrive at the office and review emails received since leaving at the end of the previous day. I also check over my “inbox” of files to be reviewed, ranging from personal tax returns to audit engagements.
08:30 Review a number of personal tax returns. At the completion of each, if there are any issues, I briefly discuss them with the staff member who prepared the return. We go over some items to watch out for on other, similar returns, any changes that need to be made and other teaching opportunities
10:00 Meeting with a Board of Directors with one of my local not-for-profit clients. I walk them through a draft copy of their financial statements noting any key changes during the year and answer any questions that they have. I also discuss any additional audit findings and areas that can be improved for the following year.
12:00 Time for lunch with a local investment advisor to discuss the services that Welch offers to both personal and corporate clients, and discuss a few specific scenarios that their clients are in to determine if we would be a good fit for them.
13:30 Call a number of our clients that have audits coming up, mainly in our April and May months. I like to get their timelines and deadlines well in advance so that we can plan staff appropriately to ensure we are meeting their needs.
16:00 I generally like to take my afternoons to tackle some corporate work at this time of year, which helps change things up a bit from reviewing personal returns. Being in a smaller office gives a great opportunity for a wide scope of clients and projects.
18:00 It is time to call it a day, this time of year I still try to make sure I am home in time to see my two girls before they head to bed. Then it is off to the gym!
