January 30, 2014

Income Splitting Loans If you have an income splitting loan to your spouse or a minor child, January 30th is the last day to make the interest payment on the loan to avoid the attribution rules.

January 31, 2014

GST/HST Remittances – If you have a business, the due date for filing and remitting Goods and Service Tax/Harmonized Services Tax (GST/HST) for the previous quarter.

February 28, 2014

T4 & T5 Deadline – Last day to issue T4 and T5 slips and file the related information returns.

March 3, 2014

RRSP Deadline – Last day to contribute to an RRSP and be able to deduct the contribution on your 2013 personal income tax return. If you miss the deadline, you’ll have to claim the deduction on your 2014 personal tax return. Because March 1st falls on a Saturday, the deadline is the next business day, March 3rd.

March 17, 2014

Quarterly Instalments – If you pay your personal income tax by instalments, this is the first quarterly instalment payment deadline. Because March 15th falls on a Saturday, the due-date is the next business day, March 16th.

March 31, 2014

Trust Filing Deadline – Inter vivos trusts (i.e. Family Trusts) are required to have a December 31 year-end and the filing due date is 90 days after year-end.

April 15, 2014

U.S. Individual Filing Deadline – If you are a U.S. Citizen or green card holder, you are required to file a US tax return, even if you are not living in the U.S. If you were not physically present in the U.S. on this date or you were not subject to tax withholdings on wages for 2013, you do not have to file your U.S. tax return until June 16th as June 15th is a Sunday.

April 30, 2014

Individual T1 Filing Deadline – For individual filers (who are not self-employed) this is the deadline to file your 2013 personal income tax return.

2013 Tax Payments Due In Full – If you owe money to the CRA on your 2013 personal tax return, the balance is due and payable on April 30th, even if you are self-employed.

GST/HST Remittances – If you are self-employed, the due date for filing and remitting GST/HST for the previous quarter. This is also the payment due date for self-employed individuals who are annual filers.

June 16, 2014

Self-Employed Returns DueIf you or your spouse were self-employed in 2013, your income tax return is due by June 15th. Because June 15th falls on a Sunday, the due-date is the next business day, June 16th. This is also the GST/HST filing due date for self-employed individuals who are annual filers.

However, if you owe taxes, the balance is due on April 30th.

U.S. Tax Returns Due – If you are a U.S. Citizen or green card holder and you were not physically living in the U.S. on April 15, 2014, you must file your 2013 U.S. tax return by this date.
