Shannon, Senior Manager at Welch LLP in Ottawa, began her career with Welch LLP as a co-op student in 2001 and full-time after completing her post-diploma degree at the University of Waterloo. At the beginning of her career at Welch, she mostly focused on the audit of automotive and Recreational Vehicle dealerships.
She has both her Chartered Accountant (CPA,CA) designation as well a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation. Throughout her career, Shannon volunteered as treasurer for the Ottawa CA Association during which time she also volunteered as the main organizer and proctor for the Ottawa area CPA, CA exams. After returning to work from her 2nd maternity leave, Shannon focused on compliance audits within our government group. This included the review of internal audits and the review of many recipient audits conducted across Canada and internationally. Some of the more recent audits she performed included travel to Ghana, Switzerland, Kenya and Tanzania.
More recently, Shannon began work within our Quality Assurance Department. This role involves many internal compliance facets including: Welch Privacy Coordinator, Welch Corporate Security Officer (CSO), Business Continuity compliance monitoring and updates, FINTRAC compliance monitoring and updates, assurance template updates and training, internal training coordination and monitoring, internal file monitoring, coordination of institute Firm monitoring, monitoring of student programs (PERT) and coordinating with other Welch Offices about these items.
Outside the office, Shannon can be found cheering on her children in their activities, playing volleyball or relaxing at her cottage.
